How to Show Buddha Statues in the Garden, Home, and a Place of Business

Statues of the Buddha are one of the best known forms of Asian-themed decor. Travel to eastern Asia and hundreds of Buddha sculptures of all sizes can be seen in ancient temples, on the sides of mountains, in gardens, homes, and in restaurants and other places of business. Although we will find more Buddha sculptures in Bangkok, Chang Mai, and Hong Kong, we can also find statues of the Buddha in some restaurants, gardens, and stores much closer to home.

Whether used in a religious sense or as Asian decor, this classic statue is popular because it acts as a lovely symbol of peace, good will, and inner happiness. There are also several ways to showcase the qualities of high quality Buddha statues including the following ideas:

A quiet corner of the garden: Since gardens tend to act as a peaceful oasis, this should be easy enough. However, if we also use the backyard to swim in the pool, play badminton, or throw occasional parties, the Buddha statue will probably be better off away from such activities. Adequate places to display it might be a spot between two bushes, in a corner of the backyard, or in other, more secluded areas of the garden. To highlight the importance and beauty of the sculpture, consider installation of a stone path that leads to it and is, in turn, decorated with Asian garden statues or any type of peaceful decor.

Beneath the shade of a favorite tree: Stories and legends of the Buddha have him meditating beneath a big, Banyon tree. Although large fig trees are absent from most gardens in North America, the sculpture will look right at home beneath a tree of any size. Whether it’s a pine, oak, or maple, a favorite tree works best, and the bigger the better. Place the statue on a small platform to accentuate its blend of class and beauty, or, for a more natural look, directly on the ground. This works especially well for a large Buddha statue.

In conjunction with water decor: A Buddha statue is a wonderful accompaniment to the peaceful sounds of flowing water, and especially with Asian-themed decor like the Cascading Bamboo Sculptural Fountain. The statue works best when placed close enough to the fountain to hear the sounds of the water, and if the statue is small, we might also want to put it right next to the fountain.

Inside the home: Many Buddha statues also work just as well when used as unique interior decor. The best spots to show such sculptures are in personal libraries and other rooms that lend themselves to a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Smaller sculptures can be displayed on shelves, with other fine accents, and lend an interesting touch when placed on a pedestal at the end of a hallway. Larger statues can influence the atmosphere of a room when they are placed in a corner or other out of the way spot where they can be admired by whoever walks in.

In a small alcove of a store: Place fine, high quality decor like the “Avalokitesvara Buddha” Garden Statue in a small alcove or other niche, and it can be easily admired by clients. Once again, if the statue is small enough, it will look better when displayed on a pedestal or other structure that puts it at eye level with most customers. Showing the statue like this also makes it easier to accentuate it with candles or small flower vases on either side.

New Decor Ideas for the Spring Season

For some of us, spring is here! For others, well, it’s going to be a few more weeks before we see fresh green grass. Nevertheless, in terms of making plans for the garden, the spring season is definitely here because when we think about how we want to decorate the backyard, snow and ice won’t be part of the picture.

If the planning involves nothing more than taking the old garden statuary items out of storage and putting them back in the same spots they occupied last year, then planning isn’t really needed. However, if we want a fresh, new look for the backyard, we need to invest some time and effort into the process. This can be as little as a few hours, or, if we want to give the backyard a serious make-over, a few days. No matter how much or little we want to make changes to the garden, though, we are going to need a few new items. If we want to get really creative, we are also going to have to consider some novel ideas for the decor we display, as well as how and where we show it.

This spring season, try these suggestions to surprise and entertain garden guests:

Unique animal garden sculptures: Instead of sticking with the same angel statues and other garden sculptures as previous years, shake up the backyard scenery with an animal statue or two. Sculptures of animals are an easy way to give the garden a touch of humor, a bit of natural beauty, or to just give it a brand new look. Fun decor like the At a Snail’s Pace Garden Gastropod Statues: Large Snail lend a creative, easy-going look, and fit right in with just about any decorating theme. If we would rather go the cute route, we can’t go wrong with adorable decor like the Prized Pup Statues and other detailed sculptures of cats, dogs, and baby animals.

Flower planters: The garden is an ideal place to showcase natural decor, the most common of which are flowering bushes and plants, and floral arrangements. Although it’s too early to see them come out of the ground, we can still envision where we want them to grow, as well as where we would like to show flower cuttings. In addition to making plans for flowerbeds, we can also purchase new sculptural planters. The Art Nouveau Mystic Maiden Wall Pocket Planter Sculpture and similar detailed decor lend a classic touch of elegance to any garden, and can give an equally fine touch to the interior of the home.

Consider gargoyle statues: The good thing about gargoyles is that they can be displayed in a lot more situations than we realize. Although they often act as essential decor for Gothic and medieval-themed gardens, ironically, gargoyle sculptures also work well with angel statues, other types of classic decor, and a backyard decorated with nothing more than garden gnomes and a water fountain. They can take the form of wicked statues that entertain the imagination, sculptures that welcome guests with Gothic flair, and can also act as backyard wall decor. One such example of classic wall decor is Gnash The Grotesque Gargoyle Wall Sculpture. This intriguing wall decor item looks just as classy on the walls of spring and summer gardens as it does inside the home.

New Asian-themed decor: An Asian garden statue or two can also act as a novel addition to the backyard. Make an impression with beautiful, quality sculptures like the Praying Baby Buddha Asian Garden Statue and the Shenzhan Buddha Garden Statue.
