New Decor Ideas for the Spring Season

For some of us, spring is here! For others, well, it’s going to be a few more weeks before we see fresh green grass. Nevertheless, in terms of making plans for the garden, the spring season is definitely here because when we think about how we want to decorate the backyard, snow and ice won’t be part of the picture.

If the planning involves nothing more than taking the old garden statuary items out of storage and putting them back in the same spots they occupied last year, then planning isn’t really needed. However, if we want a fresh, new look for the backyard, we need to invest some time and effort into the process. This can be as little as a few hours, or, if we want to give the backyard a serious make-over, a few days. No matter how much or little we want to make changes to the garden, though, we are going to need a few new items. If we want to get really creative, we are also going to have to consider some novel ideas for the decor we display, as well as how and where we show it.

This spring season, try these suggestions to surprise and entertain garden guests:

Unique animal garden sculptures: Instead of sticking with the same angel statues and other garden sculptures as previous years, shake up the backyard scenery with an animal statue or two. Sculptures of animals are an easy way to give the garden a touch of humor, a bit of natural beauty, or to just give it a brand new look. Fun decor like the At a Snail’s Pace Garden Gastropod Statues: Large Snail lend a creative, easy-going look, and fit right in with just about any decorating theme. If we would rather go the cute route, we can’t go wrong with adorable decor like the Prized Pup Statues and other detailed sculptures of cats, dogs, and baby animals.

Flower planters: The garden is an ideal place to showcase natural decor, the most common of which are flowering bushes and plants, and floral arrangements. Although it’s too early to see them come out of the ground, we can still envision where we want them to grow, as well as where we would like to show flower cuttings. In addition to making plans for flowerbeds, we can also purchase new sculptural planters. The Art Nouveau Mystic Maiden Wall Pocket Planter Sculpture and similar detailed decor lend a classic touch of elegance to any garden, and can give an equally fine touch to the interior of the home.

Consider gargoyle statues: The good thing about gargoyles is that they can be displayed in a lot more situations than we realize. Although they often act as essential decor for Gothic and medieval-themed gardens, ironically, gargoyle sculptures also work well with angel statues, other types of classic decor, and a backyard decorated with nothing more than garden gnomes and a water fountain. They can take the form of wicked statues that entertain the imagination, sculptures that welcome guests with Gothic flair, and can also act as backyard wall decor. One such example of classic wall decor is Gnash The Grotesque Gargoyle Wall Sculpture. This intriguing wall decor item looks just as classy on the walls of spring and summer gardens as it does inside the home.

New Asian-themed decor: An Asian garden statue or two can also act as a novel addition to the backyard. Make an impression with beautiful, quality sculptures like the Praying Baby Buddha Asian Garden Statue and the Shenzhan Buddha Garden Statue.

How to Host a Unique New Year’s Eve Party

Happy New Year! Not quite yet, but sharing this happy phrase with friends and family is only a few days away. Depending on how the change of the calendar is celebrated, it might be accompanied by loud horns, fireworks, party hats, and kisses, or in a more quiet and intimate setting with close family and friends. However you happen to celebrate the end of 2016, we hope that it’s a great time and that you have had a wonderful year.

If you plan on celebrating by hosting a New Year’s Eve party, here are some tips for throwing the most interesting end of the year soiree on the block:

Host a theme party: Instead of the regular New Year’s bash, entertain guests with a party that follows a theme. Throw a party with a medieval theme and we can treat family and friends to an evening that features mead, and appetizers and recipes fit for a king. We can also encourage folks to dress in their favorite royal outfit, to wear a Venetian party mask, and even attempt to host an Austrian waltz contest. The winners get a bottle of champagne or a box of chocolates. For a medieval or Gothic-themed party, we should also remember to decorate with replicas of antique accents and put a party hat on the gargoyle statue.

We could also go with an Egyptian theme whereby guests are encouraged to dress in their best ancient Egyptian styles and wear make-up that would rival that of the pharaohs, or even throw a Wild West New Year’s party. This would require guests to dress as cowboys, Victorian ladies, and frontiersmen, and we could play games like pin the tail on the horse, serve apple pie and appropriate drinks, and host a square dance.

Keep people’s car keys: Since champagne and other libations often play a main role in ringing in the New Year, we want to be extra careful about the safety of our guests. Take people’s keys when they arrive and don’t give them back unless you are absolutely sure that it is safe to do so. This suggestion also leads up to the next one.

Prepare some spare rooms: If we foresee that it would be better for some guests to abstain from driving once the party ends, we should prepare extra rooms and couches for people to sleep on if needed. We need to take care of that well before the party starts because we will probably be having too much fun to prepare rooms after the clock reaches midnight.

Use new and unique decor: Of course we also want to impress guests with the way we decorate the home. In addition to New Year banners and other regular decorations, we could get a new sculptural floor lamp, elegant wall decor, and indoor statues for the party. A bonus of putting out new decor is that we won’t have to put it back into storage on January first either. We can keep using it to decorate the home whether we have the walls decorated with the Little Author Lunette Wall Sculpture, the Ham & Bacon Retro Advertising Pig Sign, or other fun decor.

If we throw a theme party, this is also where we can impress guests with medieval home decor like the Sir Percival’s Illuminated Sculpture and use the King Arthur’s Vessel of Avalon Centerpiece Bowl to serve treats. Guests of Egyptian parties can enjoy the atmosphere of a home decorated with stunning Egyptian wall decor, and luxurious Egyptian furniture like the Cleopatra Neoclassical Chaise.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Folks with Elegant Tastes

Some people feel alright with average furniture and forgettable decor. That’s fine even though they probably don’t realize how easy it is to buy beautiful, high quality decor, and amazing furniture for similar prices. They might not know about those better options because they shop at stores in a nearby plaza or just aren’t aware that such possibilities exist. In any case, once they find out, don’t be surprised if they eventually switch one of their side tables for a stunning antique replica like the Louis XIV Glass – Topped Cocktail Table,  or decorate the library room with the elegant L’ Escritoire Secretary Desk.

They might even switch over most of the decor in the home and garden to express their appreciation for artistic high quality pieces. Whether they change all of the decor in the home or not, we at least know that they have an appeal for elegant, classy decor and this can actually facilitate finding gifts for them. Instead of feeling forced to buy average, everyday items as gifts, we can give them accents and other items that they will truly appreciate and cherish. The following are a few gift ideas that meet this criteria:

Sculptural lamps: Lamps that blend sculptural grace with soft illumination are excellent gifts for anyone with at least some appreciation for beautiful decor. These can be anything from lovely, easy-going pieces like the Desiree Art Deco Lighted Sculpture to larger floor lamps that influence the atmosphere of an entire room. These include such options as the Peacock Goddess Torchiere Floor Lamp, an impressive, tall sculptural lamp that adds a touch of old Parisian nostalgia to any room, and the Setting Sun Black Bear Sculptural Floor Lamp,  a creative combination of an animal sculpture and lighting.

There are also plenty of smaller, creative lighting options that can lend a touch of elegant class to any home.

Wall decor: Always an easy, charming way to decorate a home, elegant decor for the wall ranges from classic paintings to sculptural mirrors, and textured items that extend out from the wall itself. High quality reproductions of classic paintings are an easy way to immediately lend a touch of class to a room, especially when the painting is presented in a beautiful frame. A high quality frame is actually a work of art on its own and is appropriate for reproductions like Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum, 1888, and Sanzio’s Madonna della Seggiola, 1514.

There are a number of lovely mirrors that also work very well as an elegant gift. Whether used as an actual looking glass, or as creative decor, every home looks better with one or more sculptural mirrors. The Madame Antoinette Salon Mirror is modeled after Rococo antiques that decorate museums and the halls of old French estates, and gives any hallway or room a charming royal touch. We can also lend a touch of creative class with mirrors like the Lady of the Lake Art Deco Wall Mirror, and the Dance of the Nymphs Sculptural Wall Mirror.

Fine accents: Although a floor lamp or beautiful wall decor always makes a big impression, folks who appreciate fine, elegant decor also love smaller items and accents. Faberge-Style enameled eggs are an easy, lovely option and work well for anyone who collects fine, high quality objects d’art. Urns and other centerpiece decor items for a table or mantle also act as fine gifts, including the French Rococo Centerpiece Comport Urn, and the Berkshire Hall Dual Maiden Sculptural Vessel.

Unique and Beautiful Furniture for Siestas

Summer isn’t just the best time of the year for enjoying the great outdoors, it’s also the best season for sleeping. Although many would probably argue that winter is when some of us truly take to hibernation, we shouldn’t forget that it was hot summer weather in Spain that led to the siesta. In much of Spain and some other places in the world where day time temperatures can climb to uncomfortable heights, a lot of people sleep during the heat of the day. It would be nice to do otherwise but if it’s too hot to work, why not just sleep and put in the hours when it cools down?

The answer to that question is the siesta and for folks who have a lot of free time, or can work during the evening hours, it might be a welcome idea. Although some might also argue that air conditioning takes away the need for a siesta in modern times, it’s still hard to beat snoozing in a hammock under the shade of a favorite oak, lounging by the pool, or just taking a nap on the back porch while listening to the drone of a fan or the peaceful bubbling of a garden fountain.

A siesta also becomes more inviting when we can catch some afternoon z’s on beautiful, creative sofas. Out in the garden, these can take the form of anything as simple as a blanket to something as fancy as a hammock with a canopy. To enjoy the blanket approach, just look for a few of the coziest blankets you have, put them down in a shaded spot in the backyard, and get some rest. A pillow and a book will probably help, as will putting the blankets down on grass instead of the bare ground. If the ground is too wet, it might be time to try the hammock, or put a quilt on a beautiful piece of outdoor furniture like the Giant Neoclassical Swan Garden Bench.

It’s even easier to get creative with siestas on the back porch or inside the home. We can take a nap on a favorite couch but those mid-day dreams might be more interesting if we snooze on sculptural sofas like the Cleopatra Neoclassical Chaise. With its simple yet rich and royal contrast of gold and ebony colors, this beautiful piece of functional decor with an Egyptian flair is truly fit for a queen of the Nile. Unique, high quality sofas such as this one also act as fantastic centerpiece decor for any home. That said, we shouldn’t be afraid to use it for its true siesta purpose. The same can be said about the equally regal Tutankhamun’s Ritual Lion Divan.

We can also go classic when it comes to siestas and rest on exquisite antique replicas. As opposed to resting on a piece of furniture that was crafted three hundred years ago, we won’t have to worry that the sofa or bench might be too old to support anyone. The mahogany and other valuable hardwoods used in modern antique replica furniture make them more durable yet just as beautiful as divans and chairs found in old estates and museums. In addition to acting as inspirational places for a siesta, pieces like the Victorian Cameo-Backed Sofa and the Swan Fainting Couch also lend an elegant, classy touch to any home. Showcase them in the living room, in a reading room, or wherever their detailed elegance looks best.
