Welcome back to the second part of our “Choosing the Right Design Toscano Garden Fountain” blog series. Today we will talk about the practical side of garden décor. Demand for our garden fountains is high this time of year so hopefully these tips will get you started as you select the right fountain for your space.

I’m starting here because the number one client concern I’ve heard is: the fountain that arrived wasn’t the size they expected, “the fountain looked larger in the picture.” This is because when the Design Toscano creative team photographs our fountains, as well as other works of art, they take time to make sure the pictures are sharp, clear and well-lit to illuminate the details. This is necessary because no one wants to buy a fuzzy blob, but it also becomes hard to tell the scale. The most important thing I can recommend to anyone when trying to choose a fountain is to make sure to check the dimensions listed, and believe what it says! If you have trouble visualizing this, use a tape measure or ruler; place it up against yourself, a friend (spouses and kids are also good for this task), or something else like a table or a cardboard box to help you get a realistic idea of the actual size.

Considering Garden Fountain Placement

A fountain should be placed where you will get the most enjoyment of it. I recommend that you take some time to consider the space where your fountain will live.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Will the fountain be placed in a spot where the back can be seen? Or would a corner fountain better fit your courtyard? (Saint Remy Lion Corner Fountain, DW73048)
  • Will you be able to enjoy seeing the fountain from your house, deck or patio? Or do you want guests to discover it along a hidden path?
  • Do you want a grande fountain that can be seen from all sides? Perhaps on the front lawn where the neighbors can enjoy it’s splendor? (Heavenly Moments Angel Sculptural Fountain, KY3002)
  • Do you have a large space than needs to be filled with a spectacular focal point?
  • Do you have a “tiny” space to place it on an exterior wall, deck, courtyard or lanai? (Casa Del Lago Lion Head Wall Niche Sculptural Fountain, SS2568)
  • Do you want the fountain in the center of or at the end of a formal garden path? (Don’t forget to scale the fountain to fit the area and still allow enough space to easily walk around it.) (Cherubs at Play Sculptural Fountain, JY1968)

  • Also, where will a fountain provide the best sound of water music: on the patio, in a flower bed or in a shady nook outside your bedroom window?

Another thing to consider when selecting the location of your fountain is: will it be under trees or plants that shed leaves or seeds? If it is you will need to be prepared to spend some time cleaning out the fountain so the pump doesn’t become clogged.

Don’t forget as you’re perusing our wide selections of fountains to take a look at all the other statues, wall accents and garden furniture that Design Toscano has to offer!
